This position in Quesnel supports a project funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada, specifically to develop and implement a $10aDay Child Care engagement strategy in rural and remote communities. The strategy includes outreach to parents, educators and providers, with an emphasis on racialized women.

Reporting to and working closely with the CCCABC Director of Strategy and Community Engagement, Community Co-Leads are responsible for developing and implementing a community engagement process. Key elements of the engagement process include:

  • Learning about the child care experiences of local families, educators, and providers.
  • Sharing and discussing solutions recommended in the $10aDay Plan
  • Sharing new or unique local community child care concerns or issues with the CCCABC (via the Director, participation on the Provincial Advocates Network, etc.) to inform the ongoing process of updating the $10aDay Plan learnings and policy recommendatioons
  • Co-develop, in and with community, strategies to increase community awareness of and support for $10aDay child care, raise the visibility of $10aDay progress and successes to date, and advocate for implementation of proposed $10aDay solutions to address the challenges experienced by local families, educators and providers.

In summary, Community Co-leads contribute to the co-creation of engagement opportunities and advocacy activities tailored to each community, informing and contributing to province-wide efforts to advance key $10aDay child care policy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and Implement Community Engagement Plans

With support from CCCABC:

  • Design and implement inclusive engagement strategies tailored to diverse communities across BC.
  • Facilitate consultation sessions to understand and document the evolving child care needs of rural, Indigenous, immigrant, and low-income women and to share and discuss $10aDay Plan priorities and solutions.

2. Promote Inclusive and Culturally Relevant Engagement

  • Collaborate with translators, cultural liaisons, and community leaders to ensure accessible, culturally sensitive engagement.
  • Build trust by integrating local traditions and community-specific approaches.

3. Lead Community Visits and Integrate Feedback

  • Conduct visits to engage with local stakeholders, gathering insights into child care needs and sharing information about the $10aDay Plan. Community visits may occasionally include overnight travel to surrounding areas, and one or two meetings in the Lower Mainland.
  • Synthesize community feedback into actionable engagement activities

4. Foster Community Participation and Leadership

  • Create opportunities for equity-deserving women to participate and lead in shaping $10aDay engagement activities.
  • With support from CCCABC, provide resources, honoraria, and coaching to support continued engagement and advocacy.

5. Inform Policy Recommendations

  • Participate in CCCABC’s Provincial Advocacy Network and other opportunities to ensure ongoing provincial $10aDay policy discussions are informed by the learnings in their community.  
  • Advocate for the inclusion of diverse voices in provincial child care policy discussions

  • Recognizes the values that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization
  • Working knowledge of feminist, labour and social justice movements
  • Experience working in the community-based sector

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about community-driven engagement and a supporter of the $10aDay Plan.

They must have a strong interest in working collaboratively to achieve an equitable, inclusive, high quality $10aDay child care in BC. With support from CCCABC, they are committed to working from an intersectional, feminist, anti-oppressive perspective, informed by the ongoing impacts of colonization and a commitment to reconciliation.

Salary & Benefits:

The position is part-time, with flexible hours of work averaging approximately 16 hours/week. Compensation is estimated at $44/hour, to be confirmed with further consideration of qualifications and experience.
